When is the contest?
An annual event, this year's Carpenter and Millwright Apprenticeship Contest will take place on August 13, 2005 at the St. Louis County Fairgrounds in Proctor, Minnesota.

Who is eligible?
Each local union in the district council sponsors a contestant. Typically this is an apprentice carpenter or millwright with 5000 hours of trade experience.

What are the events?
The apprenticeship contest is a daylong event in which contestants are evaluated on their trade skills and knowledge.
Carpenter apprentices are tested on their understanding and ability to read and interpret blue prints and their skill in using construction materials.
Millwright apprentices are tested on their ability to work with precision tools of the trade to perform challenging millwright work operations such as mechanical pump alignment.

What are the awards?
Every contestant will receive a cash award. Plus, your local union may also offer an additional prize.

Check with your local union or the Regional Training Center to see if you are eligible. There you will learn the selection process.
